“…I am grateful to Navid Gohari and all the musicians who have had an interest in my music and now
are willing to introduce it to the people in Iran.”
— Pēteris Vasks, Composer
Biography.
Navid Gohari is an Iranian conductor, composer, and artistic director known for his bold interpretations of contemporary and classical music, with a strong emphasis on Persian musical heritage. He began his musical journey at the age of five and completed advanced studies in composition and orchestral conducting at the Tehran Music Conservatory, and an M.A. license granted by the Ministry of Culture.
Gohari is the founder and music director of the Nilper Orchestra, one of Iran’s leading ensembles dedicated to contemporary music. He has conducted and premiered more than 60 new works by renowned Iranian and international composers. He is also the co-founder and artistic director of the Tehran Contemporary Music Festival (TCMF), which has become Iran’s premier international platform for new music.
Gohari’s collaborations span orchestral, theatrical, and experimental scenes. He is a recipient of the Best Composition Award at the Fajr International Theater Festival and the MTNOW Theater Music Award.
The main focus of his activities in the field of practical research is on musicality, musical functions, the third realm, and the tension between art and life. More than anything else, he defines his professional activity as “musical life and self-searching through artistic activity,” and for this reason, in the past two decades, in addition to conducting, he has had diverse activities and experiences in various fields of music. Currently he is the Artistic Director of the Tehran International Contemporary Music Festival, The Principal Conductor of Nilper Experiential Orchestra, The Music Director of Beyn Theater Group, The Director of Human Voice Ensemble, The Manager of Music For Everyone Projects, and The General Manager of TamrinSpace (The Work Center for Music & Theater).
