Back to Classic Era

Statement/

Time is a continuous and extended reality whose components are so intricately intertwined that they cannot be separated from one another. Thus, an inseparable unity exists between the past and the present. Moments of time are not isolated points; rather, each moment is an indivisible reality that encompasses the past, the present, and the future.
More precisely, moments do not follow one another sequentially—they are nested within each other.

As Henri Bergson so beautifully writes in Time and Free Will:
“Wherever there is change and transformation, there too is time. But if movement is denied, then time ceases to have any meaning.
When every being carries its past within itself, it loses nothing as time passes; rather, as time moves forward, it adds to the being’s fullness and depth.
The presence of the past in the present means that all the achievements of life are present in the current state of a human being. Time is not merely a moment replacing another; it is the continuous unfolding of the past that gradually moves toward the future, and with each step forward, it grows more complete.”
