Tehran Contemporary Music Festival (TCMF) is the premiere international contemporary music festival in Iran. The festival formed by Navid Gohari (Artistic Director) and Ehsan Tarokh (Executive Director) with the cooperation of Idin Samimi & Martyna Kosecka (Artistic Adviseros & Curators). TCMF is an organization focused on introducing new music genres and thoughts to Iranian audiences, providing knowledge and accessibility to the information on new music, and organizing concerts, workshops, and lectures about new music perceptions.
Navid Gohari & Sarah Akbari (Board of founders) described this center as follows: “Tamrin Space” is the dream of having an independent house for a group of music and theater artists; a house where they can turn their dreams into reality and share their achievements with others. It’s about enjoying working together and engaging in artistic activities in a space meticulously designed and prepared for such experiences. TamrinSpace in Tehran is a work center for music and theater committed to producing and presenting unique and new educational programs, performances in field of music & theater as well as hosting events corresponding to the ideas laid down by creative practice.
Beyn Theater Group started its performing and theatrical activities in 2009. The Group insists on the performer as the main element of performance. Mindful of the surrounding environment, the objective of the group is to study the quality of musicality in the outside world using performing possibilities. Musicality includes, but is not limited to, musical properties. Beyond typical musical properties, musicality should be looked at as a quality inherent in nature and human behavior. Hence, studying natural and human actions which intrinsically contain aspects of dialogism, polyphony, harmony and appeal is the main focus of the group. The activities of Beyn Theater Group are arranged into different projects. Each project includes one main performance, a number of subsidiary performances, expeditions and special musical and physical studies.
The human-Voice ensemble was established in 2020 by Navid Gohari as Artistic director to research the sources of the human voice and the possibilities of making a multi-layered and sensory communication through voices. HVE training, rehearsal, and performance process is treated as a laboratory, enabling the ensemble to research and develop each new training approach, which always seeks to integrate movements, voice, and songs, creating a performance that has an inherent musicality and connects with the audience on a sensory level.
Nilper Orchestra was founded by Navid Gohari in 2004 for performing contemporary classical music. The Orchestra’s continuous aspiration is performing art music of both Iranian and international contemporary composers, while – as the members of the orchestra – bringing together talented performers and raising the level of artists living and working in Iran.
Nilper is focused on introducing and performing the rarity repertoire of high quality, observing international rules of copyright and interaction with publishing houses, and inviting and hosting established artists and soloists from around the world. These all mark the concept, philosophy, and the approach of the board of directors in Nilper Orchestra.
The Music for Everyone group was established and started operating in 2016 with the support of artists and activists in music and theater, aiming to ” create appropriate opportunities for everyone to pay attention to and engage in musical activities.” The group has tried to challenge conventional standards of music education and beliefs based on the need for talent and skill in music, encouraging everyone to engage in musical activities without fear of being judged or feeling insecure.
These projects are opportunity for everyone to express their abilities outside the boundaries of aesthetic dos and don’ts. An opportunity that gives people of all ages and social standing the opportunity to express their suppressed creativity without being judged, to regain their self-confidence in a collective activity, and to experience the ultimate pleasure and mental liberation by engaging in musical playfulness. Music is an opportunity for everyone to be a child. Equally creative, honest, and free!
